Overdose Kits to Save Lives

In the City of Baltimore, a local effort resulted in training and distribution of emergency overdose kits. Volunteers get training in administering the drug naloxone to reverse the effects of heroin overdose. Naloxone can restore breathing in persons who fall into an arrest after overdose. We understand the tragic consequences of drug abuse and they include the risk of death from an overdose of powerful drugs like heroin and other opiates. We applaud efforts to save lives and increase awareness of emergency procedures. Prevention has an important role in every level of the fight against drug abuse. We must work harder to prevent drug use, and work just as hard to stop injuries among those who have been caught up in addictions.

Public Awareness Campaign

Recovery Month in Maryland has focused on the need for greater resources and action against drug abuse. Protests and rallies for increased awareness and government action in response to the current epidemic of heroin overdose cases. Maryland, like many other parts of the US, has experienced sharp increases in the amount and severity of opiate overdoses. The epidemic has stressed resources and led to a large number of fatalities in Maryland. We urge greater participation by government and communities to combat drug abuse through prevention and treatment resources.

Comprehensive Approach

The State of Maryland reorganized its administration of drug abuse resources by combining it with the mental health administration. This approach is consistent with ours. We seek comprehensive treatment that identifies and works with all of the driving factors. The recovering addict must make a commitment to sobriety and staying drug-free; family and friends can provide a vital support system to reinforce the commitment and provide encouragement. Call us today. We help families find solutions for drug dependence that lead to lasting drug-free living and personal reform.
